- ABOUT DOSAMATC AND PC-DESK
-
- DOSAMATC is a menu-program and much more. As a menu-
- program, it has more power than most: you may print a file,
- browse through it in ASCII (text) mode--try this on the DOC
- files, change the volume label, sort the directories, run
- programs...for openers.
-
- DOSAMATC also has the ability to multi-task up to seven
- programs, if you have enough memory. Note that the program
- does this by "splitting" memory, rather than using true
- concurrent processing. You could, for example, multi-task
- a word-processor and number-crunching program, and toggle back
- and forth as you needed information.
-
- Do print the documentation and pay attention. While it
- generally works very well, especially in high memory machines
- with plenty of disk space, there are some things to avoid.
-
- PC-DESK is another fascinating package. This is an
- "integrated" program, including a calendar, a nifty calculator,
- a minimal word processor, and data files for names, addresses,
- and comments. While its primary use is as a handy form letter
- generator, it can do lots more. Text files created by word
- processors which store things simply can be used. By
- "simply," we refer to plain ASCII files. Volkswriter saves
- words in this way, and WordStar can be tricked into doing so.
- Other word processors, with extensive on-screen formatting, do
- things differently on disk, and won't work.
-
- The program is configured for IBM/Epson printers and
- may not work with several others. Still, the calculator and
- calendar are worth using.
